Track, Motoring, and Social Triumvirate

After a very long hiatus in the tracks series, the biggest event of the season arrived – the three-day extravaganza at Sonoma Raceway! The weekend contained a bit of everything:

  • About 120 HPDE drivers participated, of which 30 were beginners.
  • Strong Club Race attendance, including teams that came from Texas, Arizona, and Utah.
  • We had a Cars and Coffee at the track paddock on Saturday, which brought a wonderful mix of cars.
  • Our Motoring Director led a group of 50 motorists to the track in the late morning, as part of their Wine Country Tour.
  • There were Parade Laps on the track on Saturday at lunch, this was a great opportunity to take any vehicle on a couple of leisurely laps around this famous track.

The Club can be so tribal at times, so this event was to intentionally bring the Track, Motoring, and Social demographics of the club into a single place, where we can showcase the various facets of the Club to our membership. This approach seemed to be quite successful, so we may consider having more convergent events at Laguna Seca and Sonoma in the future.

I also wanted to point out that a few Club Awards were handed out during this Sonoma Weekend, so congratulations to Jim and Gilbert for their efforts:

  • 2021 Competitive Event of the Year – Return to Sonoma – Jim McClelland
  • 2021 Social Event of the Year – Halloween Drive – Gilbert Bouzeid
  • 2021 Perc Bliss Award – Gilbert Bouzeid

So thanks to all who came and kept the track weekend at Sonoma a fun and safe weekend!

See you at the track!
