LOOKING AT 2021!

911 GT3 models, 2021, Porsche AG

Porsche is known for numerous iterations of its cars over a portfolio run. Looking back we see a special Boxster 25th anniversary edition and a fourth version of the Taycan EV in January, the new 911 Porsche 911 GT3 in February, 20 years of Porsche in China in April, hints of the new EV Macan in May, and the 911 GT3R win at Nürburgring in June! And November saw the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS launched as the new flagship of the 718 family – an uncompromising driver’s car designed to impress with its lightweight construction, extremely agile chassis tuning, sophisticated aerodynamics and unique sound. In addition to this highlight of the motor show the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, the Taycan GTS, the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and the Panamera Platinum Edition also made their first appearances.

New digital platform for all vehicle-related services!

In January, Porsche released revamped digital services for smartphones that combined the functions for multiple apps: the My Porsche app is customers’ central interface with the car and brand. It will take over the functions of My Porsche Essentials, Connect App and Car Connect App. If there is a connection between the smartphone and the Porsche model, the app displays important vehicle parameters and can be used as a remote control for selected functions. It also supports the driver with charging processes, contacting their dealer, booking service appointments and with questions about the vehicle.

You’ll see all sorts of innovative programs that allow connectivity between you and your Porsche – synchronized navigation, calendars, digital operating manuals, locking and unlocking, controlling AC, heating, etc. This is available in 47 countries and 25 languages in both Apple iOS and Android. The scope of functions can vary depending on the model, model year and country availability. The app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store and will be continually expanded and optimized.

ELECTRIC IS HERE!

Electric is here and the charging station network continues to grow at a hyper speed. Porsche has four pure EVs in the Taycan line as well as hybrids and new of a new all electric Macan on the horizon for 2023!

California Governor Gavin Newsom has presented a $286.4-billion budget proposal for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. This so-called California Blueprint includes $22.5 billion in climate-related investment, and some $6.1 billion of this consists of EV-related initiatives. Newsom defended the aggressive scale of the state’s proposed investment, and gently chided the US federal government for its far more timid climate policies. He noted that the transportation sector is responsible for over 50% of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The media reports are filled with Cannonball runs by hybrids and full EVs alike. For those in the audience who would like more info, I would recommend going to Charged Magazine at www.chargedEVs.com , one of the new mags that have arisen around this new industry. Good info there. One positive aspect is that the Electrify America network that supports Porsche is listed as the top network in the USA, with 538 stations (2300+ chargers) online across the US and another 144 coming soon.
