Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays GGR Members! With the holidays fast approaching (I hear Santa has a red 911), I trust that you have made some good progress on your gift lists and your holiday plans have been set in motion. Wishing you and yours a great Holiday Season!

Here at GGR, the 2021 board elections have recently wrapped up, and thanks to all that participated.

  • Howard Yao has moved from Secretary to Track Chair (thanks Jim for your past service)
  • Melinda Lin is now our new club Secretary
  • Chris Hamilton continues as our Webmaster
  • Gilbert Bouzeid as Motoring Director
  • Finally, I’ll be continuing as your President for another term

Our annual volunteer dinner was held once again at our traditional venue, Chef Chu’s in Los Altos, and was a great success. With the exception of last year (due to Covid) this event has been held there for the last 10 years to thank key volunteers that help make all our events happen. We can always use more help so if you’re so inclined, please reach out to the appropriate event director to how you can help support GGR events.

We were able to collect quite a lot of donations for Toys for Tots as well!

You might notice that a lot of the gifts are cars, as you might expect. Some lucky kids will be receiving a new Porsche for Christmas! Thank you members for your generosity.

On a non-car-related side note, I ended up doing some research on reasonably-priced wines that you can buy at Safeway for this event. For those of you that attended the volunteer dinner, you already know the results. St. Francis was the clear winner in the under $20 category for Cabernet Sauvignon (out of 7 sampled). There were some pretty terrible bottles in this group. For Pinot Noir, it was closer, I selected the Talbott, but the Artesa and A to Z were also pretty good in this category. I also went Talbott for the Chardonnay. Might be good info for your upcoming holiday get-together.

While the board doesn’t meet in December, planning for 2022 events continues. We are working to finalize the date and venue for the Autocross Awards Dinner (looking like late January). Track dates are mostly decided now as are the first autocross dates in the spring. Drive and Social events are also in planning. Stay tuned as we finalize contracts and announce the final and planned dates soon.

For now, take a break and enjoy the holidays with your friends and family.

Ed Hunter
GGR President
