Sunrise Setup

The PCA Golden Gate Region Carlsen Porsche 2014 autocross season is officially over and winter is finally here, though you wouldn’t know it judging by the weather at the Alameda Naval Air Base during AX #9 last weekend. The last event of the season is now behind us and in true California style the mid-November competition looked more like an August affair, complete with shorts and t-shirts galore. A huge group of cars showed up – 137 drivers!  An all time high we think.  Thanks to a smooth running timing crew in the trailer, each driver still got 7 runs each.  With a short winter day, we were battling it out ’till sunset, using up the last drop of race fuel and that last millimeter of rubber left on those dedicated autocross tires with a course that took patience and skill to execute. Starting with a dizzying figure 8 and into a slalom, then super tight gates into wide boxes, picking up speed into what some affectionately call “The Finger”. On the return the challenge was to not lose grip in a couple of fast sweepers that lead into another super tight slalom and squeeze into the finish timing light gate. Thrilling, challenging and rewarded those who looked ahead and found the right line. The driving portion of the autocross season may be over but we still have one event to take us to the season close, the awards dinner. Those with the skills to earn trophies will be honored at this lovely annual banquet so stay tuned for more info on the event. Meanwhile, plan the modifications to your autocross Porsche or just keep your skills sharp by heading to the local indoor karting track. The 2015 will be here sooner than you think and you don’t want to be rusty. Drive on and see you at the banquet.
