Golden Gate Region (GGR) is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most active regions of the Porsche Club of America (PCA), serving San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in Northern California. Our club was founded in 1960 and now has over 3,100 members. We publish a monthly online magazine, The Nugget, with articles about events, tech and competition tips.
We offer a wide range of activities, with an emphasis on opportunities to learn to drive your Porsche to its full potential. Most events offer skilled, seasoned, instructors to ensure stimulating yet safe operation. Click on all the links here to learn more about each type of event, how to get started, and when the next event takes place.
The Carlsen Autocross Series (AX) involves negotiating a pre-designed closed course averaging two minutes in duration. There are always skilled instructors available at our events, and we usually host the Carlsen Autocross School in the spring. We average one autocross a month starting in March.
AX events sponsored by Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City, CA, are held in the Bay Area at various locations such as the Alameda Naval Air Station. Each event is a timed driving competition in which participants negotiate a course laid out in a large paved area with traffic pylons. Each driver gets attempts at the course and is scored on his/her fastest time. Events are staffed and run entirely by GGR Porsche Club volunteers. While one group of participants is driving, another group “works” monitoring the course, staging cars on the grid, and recording times. All types of Porsches are usually represented. Take a look at the calendar to see what events are scheduled.
Driver’s Education and Club Racing are Porsche-only weekend events held at Northern California racetracks. You learn better driving skills, meet fellow Porsche owners, and get in touch with the high performance side of your Porsche’s personality in a controlled environment. We usually have 5-7 events a year, with weekends at Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, Buttonwillow and Sonoma Raceways. As with our autocross series, participants drive with an instructor in the car, learning better driving skills at speed. Find out about getting started by clicking here or see the upcoming schedule.
Fun Runs, our exceptionally well-received events, are organized ‘road trips’ that typically include driving the most scenic routes possible. Fun Runs normally feature some 40 Porsches driving the hills and coastlines of Northern California and ending with lunches at a well-known bodega or winery. Some events are overnight. See the upcoming schedule.
A Concours d’Elegance is an event during which owners of restored and highly maintained cars compete to determine which entry is the cleanest. The GGR concours is normally held in August and is hosted by our dealership sponsor Carlsen Porsche. See the upcoming schedule.
Porsche Club Racing is conducted through our national organization, PCA. Many of our members participate in the race series each year, either driving or helping to organize and run the races. Find out more about club racing or see the PCA club race schedule.
