The Drivers of Summer

Reporting on two events in the past thirty days.

Autocross #5 update

Fifth autocross event of the season was attended by fifty-three drivers on July 20 at Salinas Airport. Salinas always offers mild temperatures in summertime and July 20 was no exception. Fifty-nine drivers enjoyed the nine runs during the event. When dust settled, we had a familiar face at the top of the raw times chart. Teddy Framhein handily beat competition with his lap time of 35.223 seconds. We also see a rising star in RJ Harrison, who garnered the second fastest lap time of 36.332 seconds. On PAX front, who else but Teddy again taking the top spot with his PAX time of 34.096 seconds, followed by another newcomer – Corbin Betheldo, with is PAX time of 34.729 seconds.

For our Sixth autocross event, we had to switch venue to Crows Landing. Aaah, Crows Landing in summer. Hot weather of close to 100 degrees steered away a few drivers from the event. The forty-four drivers that attended the event were treated with a Teddy Framhein designed course with an average lap time of around 70 seconds. Even with this long course, twelve runs were awarded to all participants – seven in the morning and five in the afternoon. We started at 8 PM and ended at 2 PM to beat the summer heat in central valley. Steady breeze during the day kept the weather condition comfortable. Teddy Framhein and Monty Pack duked it out for the top spot for fastest lap with their respective lap times of 58.990 seconds and 59.170 seconds. For PAX, Drew Powers and Teddy Framhein had their PAX times as close to each other as possible, with their PAX times of 57.099 and 57.102 seconds. That 0.003 second difference must have been painful for Teddy. It was more painful for Drew to know that despite his valiant effort, he came in second to Maurice Velandia, who scored the fastest PAX time of 57.096 seconds. Way to go Maurice for beating the best of our best among the regulars!
