Report on 2024 Track Season

Greetings GGR Track Enthusiasts.

Jim and I are happy to report that the 2024 track season is going well.

Thus far, we have held our annual Instructor Training weekend in February where we had the good fortune to have professional driving coach Robert Orcutt assist us with enhancing the skills of our existing instructors.  We were also lucky enough to have a rainy weekend which allowed all of our instructors and drivers to further enhance their experience driving the “wet line” around the Thunderhill east course.

By the end of the weekend I had no fewer than five drivers ask me when GGR could arrange another rainy weekend.

We were also able to add twelve new instructors to our ranks.

In April we had a nice turnout at Thunderhill East where, in addition to welcoming ten new students, we were able to begin experimenting with integrating the club’s new V-Box data acquisition units into our intermediate/ advanced driver instruction program.

Most recently, we had a robust turnout of Club Racers and DE drivers for our May event at Buttonwillow where we elected to drive the track in the very fun counterclockwise direction.

Next up is our event at Sonoma Raceway at the end of June.

The Diablo Region will be hosting its DE on day one of the event, Friday June 28th, with GGR continuing its DE and a Club Race on Saturday June 29th and Sunday June 30th.  We will also be holding Time Trials on Sunday afternoon.

It promises to be a great weekend for all.  Registration is open on MSR, so please join us for one, two, or all three days.

We are continuing to search for additional track opportunities for the remainder of the 2024 season in addition to our currently scheduled event at Thunderhill East on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th. Again, the Diablo Region will be hosting its DE event on Friday, October 11th.

As always, if any of you have suggestions for ways we can enhance our program, we would love to hear what you have to say. Track (pun intended) us down either in person, or via e-mail at track@pca-ggr.org and let us know what you have in mind.

Hoping to see you all soon!

Scott & Jim
