GGR President’s Message for July

Dear GGR Members,

June packed a wonderful one two punch for our Club! The first hit was the amazing return to Alameda for the Autocrossers. The location is so convenient for most members in the Bay Area and the event was a big success. I had not instructed in Autocross in many years, but once I cleared off the cobwebs, I ended up having a great time with my two students.

The very next weekend was the track weekend at Sonoma Raceway! The location of this track is also very convenient, the closest one to the Bay Area. Once again the club volunteers did a great job at Sonoma by integrating so many aspects of our club into one weekend. There was a Cars and Coffee on Saturday morning, parade laps at noon for all visitors, the usual HPDE/Club Racers buzzing around the track, and concluded with Time Trials on Sunday afternoon. To capture the activities, we had Dave from Gorilla Tornado Photography on site.

This link takes you to photos of the Saturday Parade Laps and the HPDE/Club Racing photos. The images were purchased by the Club, so feel free to view them, download them, share them with friends, or post them on social media.

HPDE run group approaching Turn 3.

Parade lap drivers approaching Turn 10.

These two photos may look quite similar, each has three beautiful Porsches in them on the track, but the Parade lap pace is like 25 mph, while the HPDE drivers are going as fast as they can. The HPDE drivers are wearing helmets and their cars are wearing numbers on all four sides. The Parade lap participants get to just roll down the windows and go for a leisurely cruise. But I assure you all drivers have big grins on their faces.

Enjoy the summer and I hope to meet you at an upcoming event,

Howard Yao
