GGR President’s Message for May

Dear GGR Members,

It’s officially summer and for most of the time, it actually feels like summer! Our beloved Bay Area is known for its micro-climates, so if the weather is not great where you are, come attend a PCA event, the weather will be much better in your Porsche and other like minded members!

On the autocross front, we are so excited to return to the former Alameda Naval Air Station. It is an amazing site, acres of perfectly flat concrete runways at our disposal. We enjoyed so many years of heated driving competition there, but then the City stopped renting it out, anticipating some major real estate development on that site. But that development hasn’t shown up yet, so the City has been very good to PCA, to allow us to use this wonderful location again. So check out Himanshu’s blog next month in The Nugget, he will tell you all about it.

On the track front, we return to Sonoma Raceway, just a few weeks after the annual Toyota Save Mart 350. But the NASCAR drivers take a significantly easier configuration of this world famous track. They still experience a lot of the elevation changes, but they miss out on the signature Turn 6, aka “The Carousel”. Unlike NASCAR, we will be doing the entire track, the way it was intended to be driven. Our track weekend will be June 29 and 30, so come drive with us if you can. Even if you don’t drive, you can still come and check things out. Bring the entire family, just sign the waivers and you get to see a bunch of gorgeous Porsche street cars and full-blown race cars in the paddocks and on the track.

Speaking of competition, the Club brought back the Time Trial series last year. So if you want to see how the participants are doing and also see the Club Lap Record holders, visit our Track page, we recently added links to this information, as well as some video links, so you get an idea of what it’s like at a GGR Track weekend.

Enjoy your summer!
