Wrapping Up the Year

Wrapping Up the Year

As the year comes to an end and my kids are enjoying the spoils of a visit from Santa, I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone happy holidays and a fantastic new year, and to reflect on the year that was for GGR. The end of this month marks the end of my first year as President of this fine club, and it’s been nothing if not a whirlwind.

Thanks to all of the amazing efforts by our phenomenal volunteer corps, the Golden Gate Region had 47 events in 2018, our biggest year ever. This included fun runs, overnight trips, autocross, track events, Friday Socials, and Boxster Brunches, and many of these events were multiple days. That takes a whole lot of planning and effort to pull off, so a special thank you goes out to everyone that had a hand in putting on one of these events.

Thousands of members and future members attended these events, and I hope everyone had at least one opportunity to meet a new friend while out enjoying their Porsche. I love chatting to members at our events and hearing their stories – it’s one of the most fulfilling parts of this job. If you see me at an event, or even out and about between events, say hello!

Not everyone is as crazy / lucky as I am to be able to attend more than one type of event regularly, but I’ve been particularly happy to run into many folks trying a new type of event for the first time this year. Fun runners at autocross, AXers at the track, track junkies at socials… It’s great to see people mixing it up and trying their Porsche in a new setting.

It’s also been incredibly fulfilling to see GGR contributing to charity throughout the year. It often goes unmentioned, but GGR has been able to donate more than $15,000 to worthy causes like the Multiple Sclerosis Society and victims of the Camp Fire thanks to all of you.

And so as our 2019 calendar starts to trickle out and I cast my eyes forward to what is shaping up to be another record year for GGR, I hope you can join me in taking a breath and enjoying the company of loved ones (of the human or Porsche variety).

Thank you all for an amazing 2018!
