Support the Paradise Efforts – Fun Run Benefit

As I sit here watching the rain outside the window, yes it’s raining even here in Half Moon Bay, I can’t help but think of all the people up north, especially in Paradise…living out of cars ( those that aren’t burnt wrecks), tents in parking lots, or hopefully with relatives. These are the lucky ones who were able to escape the devastating affects of the fire.  It’s especially rough during the holiday season. I know that all of us are trying to do something to help. GGR has set up a Fun Run to benefit those affected. It will run on December 5, with registration opening on 25 November. Sign up, or if you can’t make it, feel free to donate the registration fee as a contribution.  Go to the Registration link:

World premieres and new car unveils can be watched live, footage is available for sharing and editorial purposes and videos and live streams are easy to embed on other websites. All content – in both German and English languages – can be called up on any mobile device as well as via a desktop.

Zone 7 BBR Concours Ends with a Bang!

Our goal as board members is to ensure that you are getting everything you want out of this club/region.  We’ve run autocrosses, autocross school, Fun Runs, track days, special events, brunches, and coming up a special dinner for all our volunteers.  Recently we held our annual Carlsen/GGR concours under somewhat difficult conditions.  Carlsen is undergoing an extreme makeover and they scrambled to ensure we had space for the cars and for the free BBQ lunch. In fact, this event was the last concours for Zone 7’s year.  I’m told now that we had more cars than all other concours’ this year with a total of 37 and more than 350 visitors!

You’re never too old to judge!

Tired of your Cayenne – check this out

Customers looking for and alternative to the Cayenne or Macan might look at Rolls-Royce’s new SUV, the Cullinan. The first-ever RR SUV pops in at a hefty $325,000 price tag. Cullinan, which starts at the front like a Phantom,   is named after the largest diamond ever discovered worth an estimated $2 billion – and no, Liz Taylor didn’t own it. Equipped with night vision, pedestrian warnings, drowsy driver alerts, a four-camera parking system with panoramic view, all-round visibility, a refrigerator, and active cruise control. Bring your wallet and your accountant!

Oil Change Costs Worrying You?  Check This Out!

We all have run around looking for the most capable and cheapest service group to work on our Porsches.  Especially for oil changes and smog checks.  What a pain.  But we can’t even get our heads around the pain of an oil change for your Buggati Veyron!  Now there are three Bugattis — the Veyron, Chiron and Divo — and two or them typically range from  $1.7 million to $3 million,  But, the newest super model, the Divo which by the way sold out in one day, has a MSRP of $5.8 million! Should be named Diva!

Now, for the Veyron, which is the cheapest (!) model at $1.7 million, the oil changes will cause alarms to wail at the Visa card factory.  An oil change costs $20,000 to $25,000, according to Royalty Exotic Cars in Las Vegas.  Nearly half the price for a basic Macan!  To effect the oil change, more mechanical parts have to be removed than it requires to rebuild a VW!  It has 16 drain plugs and requires removing such items as the rear fender, the grill, and the rear brakes,  No more whining please about your 914 oil change!

Refer a Friend

If you have friends who might be interested in Porsche, go to the PCA website and the “Refer a Friend” feature. It’s an excellent way to invite and introduce prospective members to the Porsche Club of America.  It is an easy and quick way to follow up after making a personal contact.  See the steps below.  The great thing about this feature is that ANY member can use it.  So, give it a try.

1. Log in to your account.
2. From the Menu Bar, click Membership, Refer a Friend.
3. Under “Refer Friends” enter the email addresses of friends you would like to refer.  Separate each email address by a comma.
4. Under “Message” an automatic message will appear.  Feel free to make changes.  In fact, I would encourage you to personalize your message and direct them not only to the PCA website, but the Membership Benefits page as well (  Whatever message is in the box will be sent to each friend you listed.

GGR Placards

IMG_0258I’ve restocked the cupboard with all new reprints of our placard that feature our new numbers (3400+) and I know you’ll want to hand these out! These are available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches or hand them to drivers if they don’t have our logo in the window.  No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming!  If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!

Badges – I still got em! C’mon…I’ll SEND THEM!

If you failed to pick up your badge at an even, let me know…I’ll send it to you….! C0ntact me at: HMBSHERM@COMCAST.NET
Help! I still have a HUUUGE back-log of badges created from event “no shows.”  Please make sure to ask for yours at the next event you attend, we’ll have them set out. Member badges are provided free to all those new members/affiliates who RSVP and attend social and/or driving events for the first time. Otherwise, member badges are available for a small fee through Spotlight Impressions in San Mateo. The badges feature the GGR logo, your name and a convenient magnetic clasp. The cost is $12.00 for the badge plus shipping. So, it behooves you to get them from us during an event. Otherwise, to order your badges fill out the form on our website at and email back to Spotlight Impressions at  Make sure to wear your badge to all functions to help interact with 0ther members!

Logo Wear! Get Ready for Winter!  BRR!

We’ve got a great selection at the GGR- PCA online Webstore with both men and women’s hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.  The site features a whole line of wearable GGR plunder. It’s located at; look for us in the regional section, create an account, and get shopping.  If you have a recommendation for some other item, let us know.

Remember to check the calendar for upcoming events.  See you at the AX,  Track, Fun Run or next social function, e.g., Boxster Brunch?

Enjoy the Rain – we need it!

All the best and Ho Ho Ho! – Capt. Mike
