Who is this guy?

Back in November, the Golden Gate Region had an election for our board of directors. The result of that election means I can welcome Jim McClelland as our new Track Chair and Marianne Merritt as our new Webmaster. Brian Emmett was also re-elected for another term as our Secretary, and Ed Hunter joins us as the appointed replacement for Autocross Chair. These board members officially start their terms this month – welcome!

And then there is me…

As part of the election, I was elated to have been elected as President of this fine club. While I’ve had the great pleasure to get to know a lot of you over my time with the club, I thought I’d use my first blog post to give you a little more information about me and what I hope to achieve in this role.

I’ve been with the Golden Gate Region since 2014, a relatively short time when compared to most past Presidents. I joined on the same day I finally got a hold of my very first Porsche – a 2014 911 Carrera (white on luxor beige with 20” Carrera Classic wheels, PDK, and Sport Chrono, for those that like the details). I’d been owning and working on mostly BMWs since I was a small lad in Australia, but had always wanted a 911, and when I finally had the means I jumped on the opportunity.

The Porsche bug had bitten me…

I started off with social events and fun runs, finding an amazing group of people with which to share my passion. I quickly added autocross then track days to my calendar, soon becoming a lead for the fun runs and an instructor at Autocross. I’ve attended all but one fun run and all but two autocross events over the last three years, and manage to get to the track at least once a month. Buying and selling a couple more 911s along the way, I’m now the proud owner of a 1995 993 Carrera and a 2014 991 GT3, and have made a huge number of friends in the club that I hope will have me for many years to come.

In 2016 I responded to Andrew Forrest’s call for volunteers for board positions, and after serving as Webmaster and general pain in everyone’s neck since then, I couldn’t contain my excitement at being asked to throw my hat in the ring for the President position last year.

You should have seen an invitation to fill out a short survey about the club in your email (if not, you can find it here, and there are prizes to be had for completing it!). While I have my own list of things I’d like to accomplish as President (new event types, initiatives to bring in more first-time owners, a fresh social media strategy, and getting people involved in event types they haven’t tried before, just to name a few), what I really want is to hear from you, our members, about what you want from the club. As we always say, it’s not just the cars, it’s the people, and the board is here to build the club to be what you want it to be.

I can’t wait to hear feedback from you. And if survey’s aren’t your style, you can always reach me at president@pca-ggr.org.

See you at an event soon!
