TWO FunRuns for the month of May; we’re on a roll!
by Brad Kellett for D.Michael Griffin, VP/Motoring Director and Bern Beecham, Social Director
This month the FunRun team put together a pair of events for GGR members – an overnight trip to beautiful Mendocino, and a new reverse running of our Mines Road route ending at the perfect setting of Wente Vineyards in Livermore. Both events sold out almost immediately and had long waitlists, showing just how popular these drives are.
Our Mendocino overnighter departed from Marin on Saturday 6th, traveling north along some great stretches of Highway 1 before hooking east on Highway 116 to end in Healdsberg for lunch and socializing in the park. After taking in the sights of this beautiful town, we eventually joined 128 to get to our second stop for wine and cheese tasting at Pennyroyal Farm outside of Boonville. Adequately spoiled, we continued north arriving at our ultimate hotel destination right on the beach at Fort Bragg. The evening was filled with food and socializing at various restaurants across town. We departed the next day and enjoyed some amazing roads to end our trip in Sebastopol for lunch. This is the second overnighter we’ve organized, and they’re proving very popular – keep an eye out for our announcement of the Santa Barbara overnighter soon! Check out the gallery of photos from the run.
The Mines Road / Mt Hamilton route has been a favorite for members, but to mix things up a little (and provide a fantastic eventual destination) we ran it in reverse this month. We began in San Jose and traveled some challenging but rewarding roads for a stopover to take in the phenomenal view at the Lick Observatory, before following Mines Road into Livermore. There we were hosted at Wente Vineyards for a custom wine tasting, lunch, and tour around the vineyard. With a picturesque setting and gorgeous Northern California weather, there was little more to long for. View the full gallery of photos.
If you couldn’t make these runs watch out for our FunRun announcements and make sure you register as soon as possible when they open. We’re lucky to live in an area with such fantastic roads to enjoy with our amazing machines and great friends.
