President’s Message – September 2014

Richard_FrenchWe’ve had a packed summer at GGR. Since Parade, we’ve had two Autocrosses, a two day driver’s ed and time trial at the 5 mile course at Thunderhill, a 3 day tour of the mammoth lakes region, two fun runs through the mountains, a concours at Carlsen Porsche, two Friday get togethers at Harry’s Hofbrau, a Boxster brunch at Alice’s Restaurant and a member mixer and wine tasting at Testarossa winery. We’ve also been involved in the PCA national Porsche Werks concours during car week in Monterey. Finally this summer we launched our new website at I urge everyone to visit our new site, checkout the photo galleries, submit photos, contribute articles, and subscribe to the calendar. Annual General Meeting

Our annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17th at 6:00pm. Please let me know if you plan to attend. I have a couple of different locations we can book, both mid peninsula. The choice will be based on the number of attendees. Send an email to me at letting me know that you plan to attend so we can get a head count. We will cut off the number of attendees on Wednesday, September 10th. This is your chance to understand where we are from a fiscal and club management perspective, as well as to influence future activities. All members and associate members are welcome.

Competition Rules Process

The competition rules process is in full swing. The GGR bulletin board is being used to accept member request for rules changes. There is currently only one request so we will keep the topic open until September 30, 2014. In early October we will hold a meeting with any interested member to review each suggested rule change. After that the final decisions will be made and published on our website.

New members

I’d like to welcome all of the new members that have joined the club in 2014.  I urge each of you to come out to one of our GGR events. Most months we have some event that gets you into your car to meet, participate and have fun with Porsche drivers like you. In September we will be holding a member mixer at Vino Locale in a Palo Alto. It’s a great way to meet some board members, veteran members and other new members while enjoying a glass of great wine. Learn about the club you’ve joined and the events we do with our cars. If you’d like to push your car and your driving skills we have a weekend track event in early September and a weekend of Autocross in mid September. We have some of the best instructors on the west coast, so if you’re a novice or a veteran come join us at one of our legally fast car events.

September events

We have five events planned in September. During the weekend of September 6-7, we are holding a driver’s education, time trial and club racing event at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows CA where we will be using the full 5-miles of Thunderhill. Our annual general meeting and board meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17 from 6:00pm until 8:30pm at a place to be determined (remember to send me an email if you’d like to attend). A Friday night social is planned for Friday, September 19 at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City, this event is hosted by veteran GGR members George & Shirley Neidel. On Sunday, September 21 we will be holding an Autocross at Marina Airport. For those interested in a weekend of Autocross, PCA-LPR will be holding an Autocross at Marina the day before. Both of these Autocrosses count for Zone 7 points. Finally, we will be holding another member mixer and wine tasting event on Friday September 26, at Vino Locale in Palo Alto. To sign up for these events please head over to Motorsportreg and register.

Proposed Bylaw Amendments

We are proposing changes to the bylaws which classify the 10 board members as 4 corporate officers and 6 chairs. These proposed changes relate to the length of time each group can serve in the same position. You can find a blog post with the full proposed amendment here. You’re welcome to post comments.

Have a great September driving your Porsche’s.
