Watch Videos of the first Launch Control

A peek into the factory where they’re built

A full video walk-around of the new Taycan

Thanks to “Fully Charged”, watch a first drive with numerous launch controls here:

Well the new Porsche Tycan (Tie-Con) is here and it comes in two flavors at the present – a “Turbo” with some 670 HP and the Turbo S with 750HP!  OK, turbo is not really a thing here, but it is a way to differentiate the power output and the disparate models. Take a look under the tent here and see how they’re implementing the 670 HP.  Don’t be confused.  This is still a Porsche and they’ve got the numbers to show it…fastest EV around the “Ring,” a 24-hour endurance run around Nardo with an average of 89 mph, and yes, they had to recharge it over the 24 hours…but wow!  Powering the car are two permanent magnetic synchronous electric motors (I know, I know), or PMSMs. It’s different from the Tesla Model S which uses AC induction motors. The PMSMs use rare-earth magnets embedded in a rotor (which is what the output shaft is connected to) to create a permanent magnetic field. The advantages are compact design, high power duality, better cooling high efficiency, consistent performance and service life.

Here’s a Youtube special that looks at the Tycan from every angle;

Let’s not go any further into all the facts and figures, you can look those up. What remains is a new era in the Porsche panoply as they move into the electric age as are all the other great marques – Jaguar, Ford, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and on and on.

Built in Zuffenhausen in a new facility, some 20,000 units will be produced the first year.  Take a look at the facility and watch the robots and Porsche experts building Tycans!  Amazing stuff…skip through the ads though.  Trust me this is incredible!

Hey Four-Door Folks!

Do you own a Panamera, Macan, Cayenne or Tycan? Well here’s some good news.  PCA has now created an online magazine for all us four-door fans…and I know that many of us have both a two door and four door Porsche option!  In fact, I’ve seen many of you at the track and at AX!  It’s called Perfourmance Newsand features write-ups in such areas as towing, the new Taycan, road adventures and the like.  Check it out at. and sign on at .

A new free option is available for all our junior Porsche babies.  Called PCA Juniors. As an active PCA member you can now register any child under 18 to participate in PCA Juniors, a program that has been created so kids can enjoy PCA events, learn about Porsches and build the enthusiasm that runs through all of the Porsche Club of America. While this is not a PCA membership per se, it’s free and a great way to include the kids.

PCA Juniors receive a welcome package that includes an age-appropriate gift and PCA Juniors ID badge. PCA looks forward to developing the program and its features over time.

It’s not just the cars… and now it’s not just the grown-ups! With our new PCA Juniors program, PCA is about the kids too!

Register for the PCA Juniors Program here!

Let’s Welcome our New Members!

Adding to our membership of 3,551 members are these very smart folks!  The Golden Gate Region is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most active of the PCA’s 144 regions with members in SF, Contra Costa and San Mateo counites. Some are located outside the Bay Area in some 15 countries. Truly for us, “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people.” Let’s welcome our new members:

GGR Keeps Growing

You may note that  we’ve now hit +3500 members. That’s a tribute to us all as membership is a job for everyone. That’s why I recently emailed copies of our “leave behind” card for all members to reprint and distribute (see below).  If you don’t like leaving them in windshields, then feel free to hand them to Porsche drivers whenever you can.

And if you have friends who might be interested, the PCA website now has a “Refer a Friend” feature that is an excellent way to invite and introduce prospective members to the Porsche Club of America.  It is an easy and quick way to follow up after making a personal contact.  See the steps below.  The great thing about this feature is that ANY member can use it.  So, give it a try.
1. Log in to your account.
2. From the Menu Bar, click Membership, Refer a Friend.
3. Under “Refer Friends” enter the email addresses of friends you would like to refer.  Separate each email address by a comma.
4. Under “Message” an automatic message will appear.  Feel free to make changes.  In fact, I would encourage you to personalize your message and direct them not only to the PCA website, but the Membership Benefits page as well (  Whatever message is in the box will be sent to each friend you listed.

5. Click Submit.

On the other hand, if you know someone who is actively trying to become Porsche owners, the “PCA Quest” program is a great way to attract potential club members.  The program provides a six-month subscription to Porsche Panorama and a temporary account to log on to the National PCA website.   In addition, they’ll have online access to The Mart with hundreds of Porsches for sale by PCA members.  I encourage you to welcome these guests in your Region and show them what PCA is all about.  More detailed information can be found by typing “Quest” in the search box on the  PCA.orghome page.

 GGR Placards

Our placard (right) has been sent by email to all of you so you can reprint and get them out there..  They are also available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches or hand them to drivers if they don’t have our logo in the window.  No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming!  If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!

Remember to check the calendar for upcoming events.  See you at the AX,  Track, Fun Run or next social function, e.g., Boxster Brunch?

 Cheers and enjoy the weather!

Capt. Mike
