Starting a New Year with Big Numbers!

Since it’s a new year, I thought I’d begin by ensuring all our January and February new members be identified. Welcome aboard to a really large group with 59 new Members! Note that we have now exceeded the 3600 threshold. To put this into perspective, in January 2012, we numbered only 2434 members!

Anniversary Certificates – Get ‘em!

Did you know that PCA automatically sends out member anniversary certificates for 25 years+ for all our members? That’s right, they send them out quarterly. In 2020, the anniversary dates are from Jan-April, and the materials will be sent in February.

Here’s what you get:

  • 25 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Pin
  • 30 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate
  • 35 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate
  • 40 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Name Badge
  • 45 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Name Badge
  • 50 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Pin and Name Badge
  • 55 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Pin and Name Badge
  • 60 years – Letter, Decal, Certificate, Pin and Name Badge

But what about the rest of us you might ask? We mere humans who will celebrate 5, 10, 15, and 20? Well, we too get something and may request certificates and a nice logo cling decal! Five- to 20-year anniversary materials are available upon request!

Members who request anniversary materials at , will receive a letter, certificate and decal commemorating their anniversary.

This anniversary link calculates the member’s anniversary so they can send them the correct materials based upon their account information. PCA recognizes membership anniversaries in five-year increments.

If you have not received your membership anniversary materials for a previous anniversary, please send an email to with your membership number and full name.

New 4-Door Videos

Hey four-door-ers, here’s some news and videos from PCA.

Going Banzai in a Taycan!

In an article by Damon Lowney, The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah finally released his review of the Taycan Turbo S (link is external), and it provides some real excitement behind the wheel of the EV.

In Farah’s words, the Turbo S is blisteringly fast — or “banzai” fast, as he exclaimed several times throughout the video. After starting the segment with a 750-horsepower launch-control start, he proceeds to slither almost silently through a winding mountain road in Los Angeles County. One interesting bit he mentions is how the lack of an engine note makes it tougher to gauge corner entry speed, which requires more focus from him. Watch the video above to get his full opinion (after a one-minute coffee-maker ad and a few in between – but it’s worth It to watch this baby g).

How not to get stuck in the snow — Drive a Porsche Cayenne

The first-generation Porsche Cayenne is known for being a capable machine on the road, yet few owners take them off road in spite of being well-equipped to do just that. Todd Deeken of the EveryDay Driver on YouTube channel recently showed how he didn’t get stuck in a snowbank on a dicey, snow-covered road in Park City, Utah, during a snow storm in his wife’s base 2010 Cayenne.

Watch Deeken’s full review above for his full thoughts as well as to find out about the few things that have gone wrong. There’s also other great news on 4-dooring!

OK, you’re into PCA and GGR and that means you’re off on a fun run or AX or at the track…gone from the family for a day, weekend or more, and they’re starting to grumble. Well there’s a way to include them as well. Have you heard about the PCA Juniors? It’s FREE! Participants must be registered by an active PCA member, and there is no cost to join!

The PCA Juniors program is for Porsche enthusiasts under the age of 18 and has been created so kids can enjoy PCA events, learn about Porsches and build the enthusiasm that runs through all of the Porsche Club of America. It’s easy to get on board. Once registered by an active PCA member they’ll receive a welcome package that includes an age-appropriate gift and PCA Juniors ID badge. PCA will be developing the program and adding features over time.

Register for the PCA Juniors Program here!

Volunteer Placards

I’ve restocked the cupboard with all new reprints of our placard that feature our new numbers (3500+) and I know you’ll want to hand these out! These are available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches or hand them to drivers if they don’t have our logo in the window.  No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming!  If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!

Badges – I still got em! C’mon…I’ll SEND THEM!
If you failed to pick up your badge at an event, let me know…If I have it, I’ll send it to you! Contact me at:

Help! I still have a HUUUGE back-log of badges created from event “no shows.”  Please make sure to ask for yours at the next event you attend, we’ll have them set out. Member badges are provided free to all those new members/affiliates who RSVP and attend social and/or driving events for the first time. Otherwise, member badges are available for a small fee through Spotlight Impressions in San Mateo. The badges feature the GGR logo, your name and a convenient magnetic clasp. The cost is $12.00 for the badge plus shipping. So, it behooves you to get them from us during an event. Otherwise, to order your badges fill out the form on our website at and email back to Spotlight Impressions at  Make sure to wear your badge to all functions to help interact with other members!

As usual, if you have any questions regarding Membership or problems with your membership, let me know and I can help. That’s all for now. Enjoy the New Year!

Cheers, Capt. Mike
