June 2018 Track Report

It’s Not the Cars, It’s the People

We recently wrapped up another fun weekend at my favorite track, Buttonwillow Raceway.  Over 80 DE drivers (including 20 students) and 30 racers joined us for unbelievably not hot (mid-80’s) weather at a fun and challenging track.  (Your track chair particularly enjoys turn 9 more than any other part of the course, where he makes every effort to get his car airborne, crossed up, harkening back to his youth and motocross!)

In my role of event “host,” I have the incredible privilege of enjoying many, many conversations with the drivers, instructors, GGR’s track team, and the National Club Race stewards.  I can recall engaging conversations with over 50 amazingly interesting people – many from other regions, including the southern California regions Grand Prix, Los Angeles, and San Diego.  One gentleman, speaking of it being his first time at Buttonwillow, exclaimed “This is a great track!  I’m going to go back and tell all our guys that they’re missing out by not coming here!”  Another convert!

Coming up July 7-8 is our next DE at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca.  This is always a very popular event!  Registration opened on Saturday May 26, and in less than 24 hours, registrations were at halfway to sellout.  Students will receive instruction from some of the best instructors in the business. Saturday night dinner will be at the always good Turn 12 in downtown Monterey, where our raffles prizes will include a particularly juicy one.  You can register for this event at:

Hurry!

See you at the track!
