July 2018 Track Report
In the twenty two thousand one hundred and fifty five days between the first race at Laguna Seca Raceway and GGR’s next driver education event at the famed track, the population of Monterey County has grown by a factor of two and a half. In that same period of time, Porsche car production has increased approximately fifty fold. How great for us is that?
Two days after we celebrate our nation’s 242nd birthday, over 170 of us are going to descend into the paddock of Weathertech Raceway at Laguna Seca, and for the next two days, at over thirty cars at a time, descend full throttle into turn 8A, The Corkscrew.
Always, always, always – GGR’s Laguna event sells out, and this year is no exception. If you looked away, someone took your line to a garage (they sold out in less than 24 hours). If you hesitated in your registration as a student, you lost position and found yourself running with all the other wait listed students. Fortunately, PCA instructors have come from near and far, and all of the waitlisted drivers will be accommodated and provided excellent instruction. (Several of our club racers, who can’t resist the satisfaction that comes from coaching new drivers, will again be part of our instructor corps.)
Likewise, our always enjoyable Saturday night dinner at the very good Turn 12 is sold out. We’re bringing some extra fun raffle prizes to hand over to lucky number holders after dinner. (*Ahem* Must be present to win…)
Our CDI’s Scott Kalkin and Brad Williams, at their most recent Ground School, incorporated a presentation by Doug Bablitch and Jason Polychronopolous on data acquisition, which was received with much enthusiasm. Scott and Brad are supplementing the usual offerings with much needed classroom topics. Way to go, Scott and Brad (and Doug and Jason)!
Following our Driver Education event by three weekends is another PCA Club Race – this time as part of SCCA San Francisco’s Double Regionals – also at Laguna Seca. Similarly to our DE, this event sold out quickly.
We are very grateful to everyone who registers for our events and who make them work so well, and are sorry that we cannot accommodate more of you!
See you at the track!
