December 2017 Member Only Raffle – Three raffle cars!

GGR members, it’s the time of year for the Fall 2017 Member Only Raffle! PCA will be giving away at least two grand prizes, a Porsche 911 Carrera T plus $25,000 cash. We’re on our way to three raffle cars! As with all PCA Member Only Raffles, there’s a chance to add more grand prizes dependent on ticket sales. After initial 8,500 entries, another grand prize will be added for every additional 4,000 entries sold.

The 911 model in question was recently announced by Porsche, the lightweight 911 Carrera T. Grand prize winner(s) will be among the first to own this special Porsche.

Click here to purchase tickets ($50 each) – Only PCA members may purchase tickets.

All entries received by December 14, 2017 will be accepted.

Motor Trend Finds Alice’s Restaurant

Most of us in GGR have experienced a great morning ride to historic Alice’s Restaurant for the Boxster Brunch at the intersection of Hwy 35 & 84 in Woodside.  Even though it’s aptly named for its Boxster origins, it is open to all Porsches. Twenty or more enthusiasts normally meet monthly on the first Saturday of the month to share car stories and enjoy amazing omelets, hash browns, waffles, pancakes, etc. Impromptu tours through the nearby mountain roads often follow the brunch. Our pictures and stories of this famous Porsche haunt evidently came to the attention of Motor Trend’s editors recently when they published a feature about six historic Porsches enroute to the Works Reunion. The two-page centerfold is a tribute to our Boxster Brunch enthusiasts!  The word must be out.  Get a copy of the December Motor Trend issue and check out the piece…it’s worth a read…and fun to see our special destination play a part in the article. BTW, the next BB is on 2 December…be there!

Porsche 9:11 = a whole new way to watch Porsche-vision!

In case you didn’t get the word, or haven’t dialed in for awhile, Porsche online video magazine, 9:11 for all things related to the 911 has been moving up the airwaves…internet waves?  9:11 is in addition to the brand’s customer print magazine, Christophorus, and its “Top 5” YouTube series, but 9:11 includes online-only content straight from Porsche itself.  Oh yeah, and it only takes nine minutes and eleven seconds to watch…sort of.  The first two episodes lasted 9:29 – just missed the 928 mark!

The video production does an extensive walk-through of all the attributes that define what Porsche is—and where it has been. 9:11 is funded entirely by Porsche, so there’s no advertising. Take a look at all four episodes at

Attention: Nominating Committee Seeks Region Input – RU Ready?

The goal of the PCA Nominating Committee is to consider, identify, and select the best possible slate of candidates to fill the Executive Council officer roles for the 2019-2020 term. As part of this process, the committee is actively seeking feedback from PCA’s Regions on those talented individuals who have the enthusiasm, dedication, and leadership to serve on the Executive Council. The timing to get suggestions to any member of the committee is no later than December 15, 2017.The Executive Council has appointed Ken Hold, Bluegrass Region; Maggie Goodman-Garnett, Kansas City Region; and Ron Gordon, Chesapeake Region as members of the 2017-2019 Nominating Committee. The committee is carrying out its responsibilities in accordance with the Manual of National Policy and Procedures (MNPP) and PCA National Bylaws.

Members of the committee are listed here on the National website. For further information contact Ken Hold, 2017-2019 Nominating Committee Chairman, at 859-396-3502 or (link sends e-mail).

GGR Keeps Growing!

You may note that  we’ve now hit +3200 members. That’s a tribute to us all as membership is a job for everyone. That’s why I recently emailed copies of our “leave behind” card for all members to reprint and distribute (see below).  If you don’t like leaving them in windshields, then feel free to hand them to Porsche drivers whenever you can.

And if you have friends who might be interested, the PCA website now has a “Refer a Friend” feature that is an excellent way to invite and introduce prospective members to the Porsche Club of America.  It is an easy and quick way to follow up after making a personal contact.  See the steps below.  The great thing about this feature is that ANY member can use it.  So, give it a try.
1. Log in to your account.
2. From the Menu Bar, click Membership, Refer a Friend.
3. Under “Refer Friends” enter the email addresses of friends you would like to refer.  Separate each email address by a comma.
4. Under “Message” an automatic message will appear.  Feel free to make changes.  In fact, I would encourage you to personalize your message and direct them not only to the PCA website, but the Membership Benefits page as well (  Whatever message is in the box will be sent to each friend you listed.

PCA Quest

If you know someone who is actively trying to become Porsche owners, the “PCA Quest” program is a great way to attract potential club members.  The program provides a six-month subscription to Porsche Panorama and a temporary account to log on to the National PCA website.   In addition, they’ll have online access to The Mart with hundreds of Porsches for sale by PCA members.  I encourage you to welcome these guests in your Region and show them what PCA is all about.  More detailed information can be found by typing “Quest” in the search box on the home page.

GGR Placards

I’ve restocked the cupboard with all new reprints of our placard that feature our new numbers (3000+) and I know you’ll want to hand these out! These are available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches or hand them to drivers if they don’t have our logo in the window.  No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming!  If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!

Badges – I still got em!

I still have a HUUUGE back-log of badges created from event “no shows.”  Please make sure to ask for yours at the next event you attend, we’ll have them set out. Member badges are provided free to all those new members/affiliates who RSVP and attend social and/or driving events for the first time. Otherwise, member badges are available for a small fee through Spotlight Impressions in San Mateo. The badges feature the GGR logo, your name and a convenient magnetic clasp. The cost is $12.00 for the badge plus shipping. So, it behooves you to get them from us during an event. Otherwise, to order your badges fill out the form on our website at and email back to Spotlight Impressions at  Make sure to wear your badge to all functions to help interact with 0ther members!

Logo Winter Wear

We’ve got a great selection at the GGR- PCA online Webstore with both men and women’s hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.  The site features a whole line of wearable GGR plunder. It’s located at; look for us in the regional section, create an account, and get shopping.  If you have a recommendation for some other item, let us know.

Remember to check the calendar for upcoming events.  See you at the AX,  Track, Fun Run or next social function, e.g., Boxster Brunch?

Drive Safely and have a great Holiday!
