GGR Goes to Parade – Gallery and Report
For 2017, Porsche Parade was held in the beautiful town of Spokane, Washington July 9 through 15, and the relatively close proximity to the Bay Area brought in a large contingent of members from Zone 7 and the Golden Gate Region specifically.
But what is Porsche Parade?
Parade is the annual national gathering for the Porsche Club of America, and moves around the country year to year. Lasting a week, it combines all of the various activities popular in the regions but with attendees coming from all over North America. The week includes various social activities like banquets, wine and beer tasting, and driving tours, as well as competitive activities like autocross, time / speed / distance rallies, gimmick rallies, and concours. There really is something for every interest and the whole family – even kids activities are included throughout the week.
A number of people from our region made their own way up to Spokane, but GGR also offered a caravan leaving on a two day drive via some incredibly beautiful scenery though California, Oregon, and Washington. Nine cars joined in and enjoyed the roads, picnic stops, and an overnight stay just south of Bend, Oregon.
Once there, GGR made a very strong showing at the Parade competitive events. Autocross was a particularly winning event for GGR: Steve Lau, Monty Pack, and Ed Hunter from GGR took overall men’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, locking out the podium, and Tara Shapowal took out 2nd overall for women. GGR took several high places in the time / speed / distance rally, including a 1st in class for Jessica Toney, and Steve again added to his trophy cabinet with a 2nd in class in the tech quiz. Arthur Woo even took out a 3rd in class at the concours with his 2005 Boxster after driving over a thousand miles in the car with the GGR caravan.
Congratulations to these and all of the competitors from GGR at Parade – there are simply too many to mention! Full results are on the national PCA website. And a special congratulations to GGR’s Burt Propp, who was the “last man standing” as the member in Spokane that had attended the most Parades. Spokane was Burt’s 57th Parade!
A lot of fun was had at Parade, with so many events and gatherings that we could never list them all here. But suffice to say that if you have the chance to attend the Porsche Parade in the future, it’s worth the trek. Parade in 2018 will be held at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.
