Fun Run to Wine Country
Try this for a hoot: mix 32 cars, 55 people, a glorious day driving a curvy road with ocean views… and end up with lunch at a winery. All I can say is, “Wow, did we have fun!” This was our first attempt at a FunRun to Wine Country and it couldn’t have been better. We don’t get up the Marin & Sonoma County coast very often, which made this Hiway 1 route a genuinely head-turning tourist experience. For everyone; I mean this drive was truly vacation quality stuff.
Starting in Mill Valley, we wound through charming little Marin beach towns, working our way along Tomales & Drakes Bay, meandering toward our first pit stop in Bodega Bay. Then it was north, along the uber-scenic Sonoma coast, cruising in and out of forested glens to pit stop 2 at Stewart’s Point General Store. Now it was noon and by this time we were ready for some serious sports car driving. Our wish was granted in spades on Skaggs Springs Road, an amazing stretch of mountain pavement. Twisting eastward through the trees toward Healdsburg, we were able to really air it out to everyone’s satisfaction.
The cherry on top of this sundae was wine tasting at Mazzocco Winery in the grapevine carpeted Dry Creek Valley. The day was very hot when we arrived, so with wine glass in hand we headed off to the the air conditioned barrel room for a stylish, sit down pick nick lunch. It was the perfect ending to a fabulous morning, that had us smiling from ear to ear. We all were convinced a GGR Fun Run couldn’t have been more enjoyable, and this drive will certainly need to be repeated next year. Special thanks to our Social Committee Project Manager Sukesh Mohan and his cohort Thom Ruben for making this a trip to remember. For more photos checkout the gallery
