Fun Run to Carmel Valley Road
FunRun Report…. Hollister to Carmel Valley Rd
by Michael Griffin, GGR V.P./Motoring Director
Even when having to roll out at Oh-Dark-Hundred, early on a Saturday morning, we saw 38 cars and 55 happy motorists pulling onto Grid at 7:30am. And this was over an hour’s drive south of San Jose, all the way down in Hollister. At Seven Thirty; pretty good! Golden Gate FunRunners are an enthusiastic bunch, no doubt about that, and this proves it. Thanks to Grid Marshal Alice Yeh, we quickly divided into four run groups and dispatched our first cars by eight o’clock, heading south on Airport Hwy.
Event producers Ron and Michelle Castle did a great job of designing a drive down CA-25 and over 198 to a pitstop in King City. Then west on Carmel Valley Rd to the well-know Baja Cantina, where we enjoyed a loud and friendly buffet lunch in a private dining room. The walls of the Cantina are decorated with motorsport posters, race track memorabilia and rounded-off with vintage motorcycles displayed near the ceiling. It approaches visual over load, but made a fascinating and fun venue for our GGR peeps.
Best thanks go to the Castles for making it all happen for us. This is the second Drive they have produced for the FunRun Team, the first being the excellent Mines Road event this past July. OK, let’s hear it for Ron and Michelle. Yay!
