We're now officially through this year's driving events with our last tour, last autocross at Alameda, and last track event at Laguna Seca. Hope you managed to join us for some of these so you have good reason to get new tires and brakes for Christmas!

Club events aren't done yet, though! We have Volunteer Appreciation Day coming up in a little over a week and then our big annual Awards Banquet in January!

Volunteer Appreciation Day is Saturday, December 8th at 5 pm at Chef Chu's.

This year we return to Chef Chu's in Los Altos to say thank you to all the volunteers who have helped up by pitching in over this past year. Invitations have already gone out via email, so if you are one of our hard-working club volunteers and didn't receive one, contact the event chair ASAP to get yourself on the list. RSVP's are due December 2nd.  Chef Chu outside

Chef will be preparing a very special banquet for us, with gourmet red and white wines selected by the Wall Street  Journal Wine Club included. We'll be upstairs in the semi-private dining room. Should be another great event!

This event is INVITATION ONLY and we'll have a list of invitees at the door.

We will also be launching our annual Toys for Tots drive at this event, so please considering bringing a toy to donate.

Mr. & Mrs. Sweis Brings a New Club Member Into the World

Our Social Director Joe Sweis and Membership Director Capt. Mike Sherman work especially hard to bring new members into the club and to keep them.
Joe has taken his mission to a whole new level by creating a new club member, too!
Meet Nat Sweis

On Sunday, November 11 at 2:28 am Joe and his wife welcomed into the world Nathaniel Joseph Sweis, weighing in at 7 lbs. 10 oz.

Here's Nathaniel in his competition driving seat with full racing harness. He can't yet reach the clutch pedal, but that's what the PDK transmission is made for!

We're sure there will be an autocross protest lodged before very long over Nathaniel's unfair weight advantage.

Congratulations to the Sweis Family!

That's it for now. Hope to see you at an event!

Good night, Nathaniel!

Till next month...

Self-Service on Email Addresses, Please!

Every month I get a few or sometimes many emails from readers about updating their email addresses. First, thanks for wanting to stay in touch! Second, there is no staff here! There's only CoCo and I doing this each month, and there are over 3,000 folks subscribing to The Nugget.

Accordingly, to send The Nugget to any email address you like or to unsubscribe, just go to the bottom of any issue of The Nugget. There's one option at the bottom that says:

And another that says:

These should be able to take care of you.

My apologies at the folks who get irritated with their change requests via reply emails not getting handled. I would cuss out the staff--but I don't have any!

Thanks for reading.

Motor News. Big news on the motor front was the announcement of the rebirth of two Dodge types - the Dodge Dart and the vaunted Dodge Viper - Lazarus-like the snake appears reconfigured and re-engineered to appease the power-crazed populace for the ultimate Detroit Iron! When last we saw it, it was an uncontrollable beast. The new SRT Viper (fathered by no other than the boys in Italy who do pretty good auto) features a new 8.4-liter all-aluminum, V-10 overhead-valve engine that delivers 640 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque. The Dart may not garner as many headlines, but it is essentially an Alfa Romeo Giulietta with new bodywork, 6-speeds, and a 3.6L engine. No, they'll never catch us - although some say the Viper is a valid competitor to the Porsche 911 Turbo - but it looks like the US is getting serious again with the help of Fiat! Forza Italia! Cheers and drive well my friends. Capt. Mike

Social Report

Joe Sweis --by Joe Sweis, Social Director

Past Event: Pescadero Tour

-as reported by co-chair Michael Griffin

On Saturday November 10th, 2012, over the hills and through the woods, from Alice's to the Coast side, on to Davenport and back. It was a glorious sunny day, reminding everyone why we live where we do. GGR's Social Chair Joe Sweis and his wife were busy birthing their baby boy, so Michael & Grace Griffin subbed for Joe, leading the parade on a "spirited" drive over a twisty mix of Santa Cruz mountain roads to the water.

There were about 48 of us, including four GGR board members, in 30 some-odd cars, including Ferrari and BMW guests. The circuitous route through the redwoods above Pescadero and then high along the coast, attracted members from Loma Prieta and Diablo clubs, joining us in ogling the ocean views and glimpses of artichoke fields in the crisp November air. A portion of the entourage was momentarily lost in the trees for a bit, but found their way down Highway 1 to Davenport and lunch with the rest.

The meal at Roadhouse Inn was rated a success, in that the restaurant was able to absorb and serve our large, boisterous group. Afterwards, most drivers headed home, but an adventuresome - ten or so Porsches - returned to our starting point in Woodside, by taking an exhilarating route up swoopy Empire Grade, and down twisty-tight Jamison Canyon to Boulder Creek. And for a finale we cruised up Highway 9 back to Skyline Blvd. We were all so pumped with adrenalin that at the top of the mountain, we popped out of our cars in the parking lot, high-fiving each other, laughing and shouting about such a rush-producing ride. As you can tell, this was a very satisfying run, and everyone, EVERY one was chomping at the bit to do again soon.

Other Social:

We also have our regularly scheduled Social Events. The Boxster Brunches at Alice's Restaurant (17288 Skyline Blvd.) in gorgeous Woodside put on by George & Carol Grialou; all Porsches are welcome. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates.

Friday Night Socials are organized by Shirley Neidel to meet at Harry's Hofbrau (1909 El Camino Real) in Redwood City the third Friday night of every month.  No reservations are required but it's best to RSVP with Shirley at gsneidel@yahoo.com, and just stop on by!

NOTE: There will NOT be a Friday Night Social for the month of December.

As always, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO REACH OUT TO ME if you have any great ideas for a social event. If it sounds fun we'll do it! Thank you to everyone for your continued input.

-Joseph Sweis
