Autocross #4 Report

It was another sold out event at Alameda, we had 105 pre-register and attend the event. There were 4 runs in the morning and 6 in the afternoon for a total of 10 runs!

We re-used and extended the course from the autocross school the previous day so perhaps this was a factor on the “turnover” in the top finishers matrix below. 8 of the 14 top class finishers below (indicated with a *) are new to the list, at least in comparison to the last event. The course was very technical and tight. I also marked the cars with racing slicks with a ** below. Also interesting is the banding you see below in car types:

AX02 – AX04 winners – All 991 GT3

AX05 – AX08 winners – All newer Caymans produced between 2014-2018 (981 GT4, 718 S, 981 GTS, 981 S)

AX09 – AX12 winners – All Boxsters of various types and vintages

AX13 – AX16: winners – Varied older types, mostly stock (944 Turbo, 911 SC, 914)

Most cars at this event classified between AX04 – AX09, with most of these classes containing over 10 cars each.

Top PAX was Brant B in his 2001 Boxster in AX12! It is the first time I recall it being taken home by a non-AX2 car. Congrats!

For those of you that don’t follow PAX, it assigns a modifier value to your car in an attempt to isolate the car from the driver. Here’s Brant’s almost completely stock 986 (thanks David Leong for the pictures – http://www.dleong.org/2019/ax4/ax4.html?fbclid=IwAR2cLF-sJqIEqgz7h1KViTAMFLfjIs9xpXaNw8BIDRO79M225rao56PsUPA):

Monte earned TTOD (Top Time of Day) honors with a 44.398 and came in 2nd in PAX, followed by Teddy, Grady and Himanshu! All amazing drivers. Teddy’s time was competitive with the GT3’s in AX4.

The top “cone killer” for this event was Feri with 16 cones.

We were lucky enough to have 12 1st time autocrossers join us at AX4. Here’s an interesting table with just their data; improvement % for 1st timers (perhaps we’ll add this to the timing sheets for everyone going forward). Robert K come out on top with this metic with a whopping 34.7% improvement between his initial run and fastest:

If you missed AX4, don’t worry, AX5 registration is now open and here’s the link: msreg.com/ggr5-2019

This time it’s a Saturday event, which seems to work out better for many. If you’re interested, I’d advise signing up sooner rather than later. There are currently only 1 spot left of the 105 slots available. Last month, registration filled up less than 24 hours after the newsletter was published. If the event is full, you can still sign-up and join the waiting list. If you do make the list and need to cancel, just give us as much notice as possible so we can contact the next person on the list. Also, if we can fill your spot, we can provide you a refund or credit.

If you missed the sold out annual autocross school, not a problem, don’t wait until next year, just come out to AX5 and as always we will have instructors and loaner helmets at every event.

As a reminder, here are the remaining season dates, they’re coming up quick and the season is now half over! The dates are also available on the GGR Calendar our Website.

Autocross #5 – July 13 ALAMEDA (Saturday) Reg OPEN – 1 Spot left !!

Autocross #6 – August 17 ALAMEDA (Saturday)

Autocross #7 – September 29 (joint ZONE 7 weekend with LPR at MARINA) (Sunday)

Autocross #8 – October 19 ALAMEDA (Saturday)

Autocross #9 – November 16 ALAMEDA (Saturday)

I like the yellow cones. When I have the spec I’ll add an entry in the classification website. I know a few of you already have one on order…

See you at AX5!
