April Autocross News
Autocross Event #1 report – Alameda Point, Saturday 3/17/18
The 1stGGR Autocross event of the year sold out in 11 days to 95 Porsche drivers, and one 1sttime guest. As a reminder, 2018 events are being limited to 95 drivers at Alameda and 65 at Marina.
We also had 16 1sttime autocrossers register for the event. However, due to the gloomy weather forecast, we only had 81 drivers actually show up and run on the day of the event. If you were one of those 15, I suggest you skip the next paragraph entirely.
Despite the pessimistic weather forecast, it did not rain for the entire day. Being St. Patricks Day, it would seem we had the luck of the Irish with us. The ominous clouds blew by, but they did not leave more than mere drops in their path. We even had a rainbow. The racing surface started out wet, but dried out over the course of the day. After everything was back in the trailer, the hail began. Fine by us. We all went home with 9 runs each.
TTOD was earned Steve Lau driving his 911 GT3RS, followed closely (.183 seconds) by Andrew Blyholder in his 914. Taking their cue from the TTOD battle, there were many interesting contests between old and new Porsches and their drivers. For full results see: http://pca-ggr.org/autocross/results/
One additional item of note is that GGR has adopted the Zone 7 rules for Showroom Stock Classes. These are the same rules our sister PCA chapters at LPR, SVR and Redwood are adopting for 2018, and that will likewise be used at the 2018 Porsche Parade. Cars were re-classed for this event, but please take the time to check your class, as correctly classing your car is your responsibility. http://pca-ggr.org/autocross/classify-your-car/
We had a guest track photographer, Trevor Ryan, join us for the event and take about 2000 pictures at the event. He also provided the pictures for this article. Thanks to the City of Alameda for allowing us the continued use of site, Carlsen Porsche for being our sponsor and to all the volunteers that make events like this happen.
