April 2019 Autocross Report

Autocross #1 Report: Blue Skies Ahead!!

We were quite fortunate to have blue skies for the 2019 Carlsen Autocross Series opener at Alameda Point on 3/17. We’ve been seeing a lot of rain recently in the area, but fortunately, not during event day. A welcome break. The autocross sold out to 105 drivers and free sunscreen was available.

Derek provided an enjoyable course design, which flowed quite nicely and garnered many positive comments. Times were generally in the 45 second range. The top finishers in each class are listed below. Very interesting to see how close the top driver times were in AX03 – AX08:

Full results can be found here: http://pca-ggr.org/autocross/results/and now feature event and “year to date” sorting features thanks to our tech wiz Himanshu.

If you missed AX1, don’t worry, AX2 registration is now open and here’s the link: msreg.com/ax2-2019

If you’re interested, I’d advise signing up sooner rather than later. I put the link up yesterday and as of right now 46 of the 70 slots are already spoken for.

Autocross #2 will be held Sunday 4/14 in Marina (near Monterey) and will be the 2ndday of the Spring Zone 7 autocross weekend. LPR will be hosting day #1 on Saturday 4/13, so feel free to sign up for both events and make a weekend of it. Many of us also take a hotel night and just stay in the area both in order to minimize our commute time and to give us additional time to socialize. This year, Zone 7 has arranged a (no host) group dinner at a local restaurant “Turn 11” that you can also signup for when you register (no requirement to run both days).

If you don’t know about PCA Zone 7,  it contains 10 local chapters, mostly in Northern California http://zone7.pca.org/about-zone-7/This year there will be 7-8 Zone Autocross events: 4 of which will be the joint GGR/LPR Sprint/Fall events at Marina, Sacramento region will host an autocross in Stockton in June and Thunderhill in October, and Redwood will host an autocross at Sonoma raceway in September. I’ve asked for a date to be added for our home track at Alameda, our May event is probably the best placed for this. The Zone 7 autocross calendar is here: http://zone7.pca.org/autocross-events/

As much as I love driving at Alameda and Marina, I do enjoy experiencing other autocross sites and meeting other Porsche people and encourage you to do the same (you might even be able to score another trophy!).

We also have produced a new shirt for 2019, this year featuring Terry and Marcel (the latter being the car), with the SF skyline as seen in the background from the Alameda site on a grey heather shirt. Blue sky on the shirt as well. Our sponsor, Carlsen Porsche’s logo proudly adorns the front. It is available for $15 on-line during the autocross registration process.

As an additional bonus we’re printed some of the official PCA Autocross logo stickers in 2” and 3” and they’ll be available at the event (until we run out)

As a reminder, here are the season dates again, they’re coming up quick. They have also been added to the GGR Calendar on the Website.
