A Weekend in Santa Barbara for a Cause
This past weekend GGR held it’s second annual Santa Barbara overnight FunRun, enjoying three days of back roads, wine tasting, and socializing in one of the most beautiful areas in the state. This year, the event was held to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and we’re pleased to say that we raised over $2500 for this worthy cause.
The event kicked off with over 40 cars and over 70 attendees departing from Hollister on Friday morning, trekking via Highway 25 and 198 to a lunch stop in Paso Robles. The group then followed the PCH, 101, and 154 to descend into Santa Barbara for a night of great food and new friends.
Saturday brought the biggest change to our agenda from last year – by popular demand, a brunch stop in the quaint town of Ojai was added, reached via a run on the excellent Highway 150. Once spoiled by the wonderful artisan creations in Ojai, we headed back along 150 to another jaunt on 154 to make a 2017 return to the Firestone Vineyard for more socializing and a sampling of their wine offerings. As with Friday, dinner and drinks followed later that night.
For those of us that still didn’t have their fill of wonderful back roads, an optional Sunday return trip to Paso Robles via Highway 33 and 58 provided a breathtaking array of twists, sweepers, and even a few yumps to close out the weekend. These are truly some of the most amazing roads around and will surely feature more prominently in future trips.
As is our motto, GGR is not just about the cars, it’s also about the people. New friends and old friends alike had a great time taking in all that Santa Barbara had to offer, and we’re all particularly proud to be able to combine our love of fast cars with supporting a fantastic cause – something we’ll incorporate in future events too.
Our October Carmel Valley FunRun closes out the touring season for GGR. We’ll see you there or at another event soon.
