News From Porsche!

Porsche continues to grow around the world and continues to get a huge boost in an unlikely location – China!  In 2016, China was the strongest individual market at Porsche for the second year in a row, enjoying an increase in sales of 12 per cent. Porsche delivered 65,246 vehicles in the country. The sports cars are becoming more and more popular, with the 911 increasing by eleven per cent compared to the previous year. A particularly large number of young customers in China chose the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models introduced in the last year. The Macan accounted for more than half of all deliveries at 34,015 units, representing an increase of over 22 per cent. Deliveries of the Cayenne rose by 5.5 per cent.

New: Porsche Club China and Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific

Porsche is expanding its customer support network in China and will announce the launch of Porsche Club China and Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific at the start of the Auto Shanghai 2017 motor show. The main focus is on the Asian launch of the Panamera Sport Turismo.. The Club will act as an umbrella organization for the 250 or more members of private associations, giving them access to international Porsche events, exclusive offers and sporting events. In future, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific will be the point of contact between the factory and motorsport customers with GT vehicles. The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has been held for 15 years and now sees 26 starters competing from ten different countries. With an audience of around two million people, this series is one of the most popular racing championships in the region.

Consumer Reports and Porsche

The latest edition of Consumer Reports, their “Auto Issue,”  has some great info on all aspects of the automotive industry – all brands, safety, tires, what’s on the drawing boards, Best and Worst, etc.  It’s great to see that the standouts from their Road Tests include the Porsche Macan S which they list as achieving the highest score in the “Luxury Compact SUV” genre.  The Brand Report Card lists rankings of all the automakers.  While Audi is rated first, Porsche is second, ahead of our friends from BMW.  And of greater interest is that only Porsche, BMW and Mazda “earned a recommendation on every model (we) tested,” and therefore lead all other brands. These recommendations are based on a combination of road tests, reliability, owner satisfaction and safety.  Way to go Porsche!

Safety First Please!

The latest reports show that distracted driving fatalities are waaaay up!  Our newer models have all sorts of features that make driving easier, more enjoyable and allow us to link up with the world at large – e.g, texting – the United States Department of Transportation says that “text messaging while driving creates a crash risk 23 times higher than driving while not distracted).  And then there’s mapping, email, phones, talking to Siri,  satellite stations, etc. New or old, our Porsches can be touchy and twitchy little monsters that demand we keep focus at all times.  So, a reminder – Do your fiddling prior to setting out and confine your skidding and sliding to the AX and Track…not 101 or 580!  Just sayin’. We like you and want to keep you around.

The Raffle is On!

The Spring 2017 Member Only Raffle is open, and this time the grand prize should have you drooling: a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS plus $25,000 in cash.

  • Up to 8,500 entries for 1st Grand Prize
  • After initial 8,500 entries, another Grand Prize will be added for each additional 4,000 entries
  • Multiple winners anticipated

Starting with the 997-generation, the 911 Carrera GTS has become the go-to Porsche for those who want more than what a Carrera S can offer without jumping to the track-optimized GT3. It has 450 horsepower, a wide body, and comes in coupe, cabriolet, and Targa body styles as well as with rear- or all-wheel-drive powertrains. Of course, a GTS wouldn’t be a GTS without tons of standard equipment, and this one delivers the goods on that front, too.

All entries received by June 1, 2017 will be accepted.

GGR Placards

Our placard (left) has been created to encourage unattached Porschephiles to join.  They are available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches everywhere if they don’t have our logo in the window.  No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming!  If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!

Badges – I still got em!

I still have a HUUUGE back-log of badges created from event “no shows.”  Please make sure to ask for yours at the next event you attend, we’ll have them set out. Member badges are provided free to all those new members/affiliates who RSVP and attend social and/or driving events for the first time. Otherwise, member badges are available for a small fee through Spotlight Impressions in San Mateo. The badges feature the GGR logo, your name and a convenient magnetic clasp. The cost is $12.00 for the badge plus shipping. So, it behooves you to get them from us during an event. Otherwise, to order your badges fill out the form on our website at www.pca-ggr.org/membership/badges and email back to Spotlight Impressions at sales@spotlightimpressions.com.  Make sure to wear your badge to all functions to help interact with 0ther members!

Logo-wear – New Stuff!

We’ve added new stuff to the GGR- PCA online Webstore including a couple of men and women’s hoodies, sweatshirts.  The site features a whole line of wearable GGR plunder. It’s located at www.pcawebstore.com; look for us in the regional section, create an account, and get shopping.

Remember to check the calendar for upcoming events.  See you at the AX,  Track, Fun Run or next social function, e.g., Boxster Brunch?

 Cheers and enjoy the weather!

Capt. Mike
