Birthday Wishes to Janis!
Perhaps you didn’t know (or really care), but we old farts remember a time when love was free, and we basked in the age of Aquarius. And who better to represent that time than a lady who recognized great music and beautiful autos. So, let’s raise a glass to Janis Joplin on her 77th birthday (JAN 19, 1943). She really didn’t want her friends to buy her a MBZ, she already had a great car!
You have to love Porsche, now they’ve set up a separate news and information e-news email specifically for those of us who also have the four door, four wheel versions of these great autos. So, if you haven’t seen it, take a quick look and sign up for the info that’s available on these great autos. Go to pca.org to sign up for this new addition to Porsche info.
Speaking of great cars! The Macan GTS is here!
We all know what the Porsche options list looks like and what it can add to a seemingly “inexpensive” Porsche…mine was over $7k for my Macan. But there’s another alternative that many buyers don’t look into and that’s the GTS option which is really available on all Porsche models these days. So, if you want extra lighting, tires, exhausts, special logos, wheels, and cosmetic touches…look at the GTS. And the new Macan GTS offers all that in one box…
- 15 more horsepower from the GTS’ 2.9-liter turbocharged V-6 – peak output to 375 ponies.
- Revised PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission
- Enhanced V-6 helps the GTS sprint to 60 mph – 4.5 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package/4.7 seconds, without the Sport Chrono.
- Tops out at 162 mph.
- Porsche’s adaptive air suspension
- Brakes – 14.1 inches in diameter up front and 12.9 inches in the rear
- More aggressive front fascia
- $72,650 for the newest Macan GTS

OK, you’re into PCA and GGR and that means you’re off on a fun run or AX or at the track…gone from the family for a day, weekend or more, and they’re starting to grumble. Well there’s a way to include them as well. Have you heard about the PCA Juniors? It’s FREE! Participants must be registered by an active PCA member, and there is no cost to join!
The PCA Juniors program is for Porsche enthusiasts under the age of 18 and has been created so kids can enjoy PCA events, learn about Porsches and build the enthusiasm that runs through all of the Porsche Club of America. It’s easy to get on board. Once registered by an active PCA member they’ll receive a welcome package that includes an age-appropriate gift and PCA Juniors ID badge. PCA will be developing the program and adding features over time.
I’ve restocked the cupboard with all new reprints of our placard that feature our new numbers (3500+) and I know you’ll want to hand these out! These are available at every GGR function and we’d like you to pick some up and feel free to use them whenever you see an unaffiliated Porsche sitting idle. I stick them on windshields of Porsches or hand them to drivers if they don’t have our logo in the window. No one is safe from the devious membership director! Porsche owners in Half Moon Bay now run when they see me coming! If you want, I’ll even mail some to you so you can hand them out…let me know and I’ll get them to you!
Badges – I still got em! C’mon…I’ll SEND THEM!
If you failed to pick up your badge at an event, let me know…If I have it, I’ll send it to you! Contact me at:
Help! I still have a HUUUGE back-log of badges created from event “no shows.” Please make sure to ask for yours at the next event you attend, we’ll have them set out. Member badges are provided free to all those new members/affiliates who RSVP and attend social and/or driving events for the first time. Otherwise, member badges are available for a small fee through Spotlight Impressions in San Mateo. The badges feature the GGR logo, your name and a convenient magnetic clasp. The cost is $12.00 for the badge plus shipping. So, it behooves you to get them from us during an event. Otherwise, to order your badges fill out the form on our website at www.pca-ggr.org/membership/badges and email back to Spotlight Impressions at email@example.com. Make sure to wear your badge to all functions to help interact with other members!
As usual, if you have any questions regarding Membership or problems with your membership, let me know and I can help. That’s all for now. Enjoy the New Year!
Cheers, Capt. Mike
